If the results of Tuesday's election have you feeling like leaving the country, there may be an opportunity for you.
There's going to be an open casting call at the Mall of America for a popular reality TV show – one that takes place in Norway.
O'Connor Casting Company from Chicago is looking for Norwegian-Americans for the eighth season of the award-winning show "Alt for Norge" (aka "The Great Norway Adventure").
The casting call will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the mall's Executive Center, which is located on level four east, the company said in a news release.
What's the show about?
The premise: 12 Norwegian-Americans are chosen to travel to Norway and compete in "fun, cultural and adventurous challenges" – which could be anything from learning how to swear from elderly Norwegians to ski jumping, the release says.
The winner receives $50,000 and gets to meet their long-lost Norwegian relatives.
Several Minnesotans have been cast in previous seasons. Here's a clip from season 7:
While kayaking in an episode from last season, Minneapolis cast member Jeff Johnson told a fellow cast member, "This is as close to heaven as I've ever felt, and if I ever feel happier than this, then I'm a lucky guy."
Before you make plans to audition though, know this: You need to have Norwegian blood in your veins – the casting company says you must be a U.S. citizen who is a descendent of Norway, but has never traveled there.
But they've stressed in the past that "even a little bit counts."
Good thing there's a ton of Norwegians here
That's part of the reason why the casting company has held auditions at the MOA for several years now.
More Norwegians live in Minnesota than in any other U.S. state, WCCO says. The station points to a 1990 survey that found Minnesotans with Norwegian ancestry made up about 17 percent of the state’s population at the time.
They also just love having Minnesotans on the show.
“We love casting in Minnesota because people are so passionate and curious about their Norwegian identity. Being Norwegian is a lifestyle here and it’s fascinating," Casting Director Joan O’Connor said in the release.
