Minnesota's first cat cafe is opening this Friday, that's what.
The Cafe Meow announced in a Facebook post it will have its grand opening this Friday at 2323 Hennepin Avenue in Uptown, Minneapolis.
It opens at 9 a.m. on Friday, and from then on will be open Tuesday-Sunday.
How does it work?
The cafe has been a long time in planning, as we describe here, which included a Kickstarter campaign and a lot of legal hoop-jumping.
To meet with health code guidelines, food and drink service has to be kept separate from the cats.
That means the cafe is split into a coffee room and a cat room. The cat room requires you to book a slot and pay $10 for the hour, which goes towards the cats' food and litter, but you can bring your coffee in and sit with them.
The cats in residence are all rescue cats and most of them are adoptable.
You can schedule an appointment here.
What does it look like?
The coffee area looks like your typical coffee shop. But the cat room? It looks awesome – a veritable feline paradise.
