TopGolf looks to bring its high-tech driving range games to Minnesota

TopGolf is eyeing Brooklyn Center as the location for its first high-tech, indoor driving range in Minnesota.

The Dallas-based company, which has 30 locations around the U.S., confirmed to GoMN it’s eyeing a location in the north metro suburb, though can’t provide more details for now.

But the Business Journal reported on Wednesday it’s looking at the site currently housing the Regal Cinema at I-694 and Hwy. 252.

Rather than typical driving range where golfers head to hone their game, the onus at TopGolf is on fun, and it’s particularly aimed at groups and parties. Hitting bays back onto lounge and bar areas, with food and drink orders taken and brought directly to the bays by servers.

As for the golf itself, TopGolf has targets ranging from 20-240 yards on the outfield. Players are given a variety of challenges to hit microchipped balls as close to the targets as possible.

The tech registers the distance and accuracy of the shot and sends a score to the screen in your bay.

The Business Journal noted that it’s planning on a 65,000 square-foot facility in Brooklyn Center, with three indoor levels of hitting bays stacked on top of one another, along with a restaurant, bar and event space.

Council members in Brooklyn Center were given a recent briefing by the company, the Star Tribune reports, and are expected to learn more about the plans next month.

But council member Dan Ryan told the newspaper that the area is one that could see “significant development” in the coming years, as the city is increasingly becoming a hotspot for millennials who want to live in the cities or a “first-tier suburb like ours.”
