Tiger Woods will not golf again this season on the PGA Tour.
The 16-time major champion announced that he underwent a fourth back surgery to alleviate the back spasms and leg pain he’s been having. The pain forced him to remove himself from the Dubai Classic in February and caused him to miss The Masters earlier this month.
“The surgery went well, and I’m optimistic this will relieve my back spasms and pain,” Woods said on his website. “When healed, I look forward to getting back to a normal life, playing with my kids, competing in professional golf and living without the pain I have been battling so long.”
He’s expected to make a full recovery within about six months.
Woods, 41, hasn’t won a major tournament since his victory at the 2008 U.S. Open.
