Target Field has only hosted a handful of major musical gigs since it opened in 2010. So when a new one is announced, it’s a pretty big deal.
And that’s what’s happening later this week.
The next person to play Target Field will be revealed at a press conference 10 a.m. on Thursday, but it’s not stopping everyone from trying to guess who it will be.
Suggestions so far have included U2, Billy Joel, Kenny Chesney and Garth Brooks, all of whom have either announced U.S. tours or have paid recent visits to the Twin Cities.
Target Field has previously hosted acts including Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Paul McCartney. Each played before crowds of more than 40,000.
Twins manager Paul Molitor and first baseman Joe Mauer will be at Thursday’s announcement too,. We’re assuming more for their deep, abiding love of the performer’s music rather than as representatives of the Twins.
