No longer just a match-day special, Surly has announced its Minnesota United-branded beer will go on general sale after an overwhelmingly positive response from fans.
The brewery has been selling the pale ale on Minnesota United match days at TCF Bank Stadium, the Surly Beer Hall and a handful of neighborhood soccer bars under the name “United Crushers” since the start of the MLS season.
But on Wednesday, Surly announced it has partnered with Minnesota United to make it the soccer club’s official beer, which it’s now calling Rising North Pale Ale.
It won’t just be an edition limited to match days either, with Surly saying it will be available on draft at bars starting Wednesday and will then see “widespread release” in 4-packs of 16 oz cans starting in June.
“Surly is a fantastic local brewery with a long track record of creativity and collaboration when it comes to beer making,” said MNUFC President Nick Rogers in the press release. “We’re proud that they’re honoring our arrival in MLS with Rising North and thrilled to be offering it at home matches throughout the season.”
The American pale ale has a ABV of 5.4 percent and is described as “highly aromatic” because of its hop additions, with hints of pineapple, lemon, grapefruit and citrus.
It has a hazy-gold color and, if Surly is to be believed, imbibing it can amplify your voice by 26 percent when shouting “Come on you Loons!”
