Listen: Joey Bada$$ lines up ‘Victory’ for the NBA

Hip-hop and basketball have a long history.

Kurtis Blow once rhymed “Basketball is my favorite sport / I like the way the players dribble up and down the court” and the Sugar Hill Gang bragged about having a color TV so they can see the Knicks playing basketball. So the NBA and Mountain Dew reaching out to beloved rap traditionalist Joey Bada$$ for his All Star Weekend anthem “Victory” is a match made in half-court heaven.

Co-produced by 1-900 and Pro Era’s most underrated secret weapon Kirk Knight, “Victory” features the sound of a basketball hitting the court for its drums and packs that rim-shaking excitement that just makes you feel pumped to watch some hoops. Joey peppers the lyrics with numerous references to players, and even draws parallels between basketball and his own career.

“Victory” is part of Mountain Dew’s basketball-art collaborative series The Courtside Project, and will be filming a video for the track with Joey over the course of All Star Weekend.
