A Hy-Vee with a fitness center? That could be a thing in the Twin Cities

Get your groceries then work out. Or would you work out, then get your groceries?

That’s a question you might have to ask yourself if all the plans for the White Bear Lake Hy-Vee store become reality.

According to city documents, the latest plans include a restaurant, pharmacy, liquor store and fitness center.

“That’s what the cupholders on the NordicTracks are for — to hold your ice cream,” Anne Kane – the city’s community development director – joked with the Pioneer Press.

The store would be in the Tower Crossing development between Centerville Road and Interstate 35E.

It’s expected to be 70,000 square feet with 10,000 feet of that being a mezzanine – or partially open second floor – for the sit-down restaurant and fitness center.

This is all still in the works, though. So nothing’s been decided.

These new plans are on the City of White Bear Lake’s list of things to talk about at its next meeting on Tuesday.

But if everything goes smoothly, project leaders hope to open the new store in spring of 2018.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal says a store in Savage will open Feb. 21. and a Cottage Grove one is set to open this summer. There are also plans for stores in Maple Grove, Shakopee, Robbinsdale, Columbia Heights and Farmington.

Hy-Vee only has one other location with a fitness center and it’s in Des Moines.
